Assistance dogs make life easier for sick or disabled people. They support everyday life, provide security and give joy. DOG'S LOVE has already supported several families in acquiring their professionally trained four-legged companion. For Katharina and Stefan Miklauz, this is a matter that is dear to their hearts. DOG'S LOVE also operates as a food partner to provide five assistance dogs with food free of charge.

NOW HELP IS NEEDED AGAIN

For 14-year-old Nina from Upper Austria, who struggles with many difficulties due to her autism spectrum disorder, an assistance dog could make her the struggles of her life much easier. Help make Nina's dream come true with your donation. Every donation helps, with 100% of the proceeds going to the "Partner-Hunde Österreich" organisation to train Nina's assistance dog, without any deductions.

EIN WHAT IS AN
ASSISTANCE DOG?

Dogs enrich our lives. But some dogs do much more: They take on important tasks in the challenging everyday lives of their owners. These assistance dogs are specifically trained to support people with illnesses or disabilities in a variety of ways. A distinction is made between guide dogs for the blind, mobility assistance dogs, medical response dogs and hearing dogs. Due to legal regulations, assistance dogs are granted special access rights. For example, they can come with you to the grocery shop or travel free of charge on trains or aeroplanes. This is also important, as they are indispensable everyday companions for their owners.

EVERYDAY HELPER
ON FOUR PAWS

Assistance dogs are trained specifically for their tasks in the life of their future owner. They learn exactly what 'their' person needs:

MOBILITY ASSISTANCE DOGS help people who are dependent on wheelchairs or have severe walking difficulties, e.g. by picking up objects, turning on light switches, getting out of bed, taking off their jacket and many other small everyday tasks.

GUIDE DOGS lead their humans through everyday life, recognise and indicate obstacles and perform various tasks on command.

THERAPY ASSISTANCE DOGS promote the development of mentally or physically impaired children in a variety of ways. They give children with autism support and security.

MEDICAL RESPONSE DOGS AND HEARING DOGS are used for epilepsy, diabetes or deafness. For example, they can indicate deviations in blood glucose standard values, call for help in the event of a seizure and ensure faster recovery or indicate important noises.

VERY VALUABLE
BUT ALSO VERY EXPENSIVE

Assistance dogs do incredibly valuable work. But they come at a price. An assistance dog costs between 20,000 and 25,000 euro to purchase. The high costs are due to the complex training programme, which takes around two years. Not every dog is suitable for this: Only dogs with the right character traits and social skills can be trained to become safe assistance dogs. The complex selection process, which begins with the breeding or purchase of promising puppies, and the long and intensive training make assistance dogs very expensive. So for the vast majority of people, they are only financially feasible with generous sponsors and donations.

AN ASSISTANCE DOG FOR NINA

For 14-year-old Nina's family, the 22,000 euro that her future assistance dog will cost is unaffordable out of their own pocket. But there is a great need for a four-legged friend who will stand by Nina when she is angry or anxious and give her support. Nina's autism spectrum disorder makes everyday life a challenge for her and her family. Nina can't go to school, has social difficulties, panic attacks, perceptual disorders and motor impairments. An assistance dog can give her orientation and security and accompany her through difficult everyday life. Her parents hope that with a four-legged friend at her side, Nina will not only gain self-confidence, but will gradually be able to participate in public life.
